Solar Lighting up DC

I'm seeing so many solar-powered LEDs around DC! Here are some instances:
  • Top left: Fence-mounted lights at Thomas and 1st NW. There's a lot of First Street Tunnel construction that's leaving sidewalks dark. This $250 Greentek light kicks out 1200 lumens (equal to 140W lamp).
  • Top right: Columbia Heights Civic Plaza solar glass canopies power the lights and fountain. It's "...one of the first urban streetscapes of its kind in the world to have its own renewable electricity generation capability" according to this source. Whoah.
  • Bottom left: Pavement markers on 15th and K NW (Saris Cycle Guide Lights). Apparently, this is a huge deal in Portlandia. These markers make the bike paths look like a scene out of Avatar or an airport runway.
  • Bottom right: My athletic brother and his girlfriend at the Metropolitan Branch Trail solar LED lights at 5th and T NE. According to Trinidad resident Geoff Hatchard, there were some problems with these lights a few years ago. I'm hoping the company, Sol has addressed this.
